Do You Notice?

Look around you. Do you notice people? Notice the stories embedded inside. Slouched shoulders on ferries, catching the eye … avoiding the contact. The odd f-bomb spoken from the table across the cafeteria. People carry stories ... histories being made. Histories matter. People matter. Our stories are a part of us, but you can know another.

You just have to stay present. I often say that … feel that, live that. Staying present with another. Just waiting, listening, watching. Keeping the focus on another … to share in the present moment. I do this because I know it is what I want, what I need, what I crave. This present moment experience. Nothing like the present. Live in the moment. Focussing on the future leads to distress, regret … re-lived disappointment. But in the present…the feeling, the emotion is not denied. It is experienced fully, not filtered. Present without judgment.

Look at the laughter in her eyes, genuine enjoyment of being with another. and then others, lost in i-pads…sitting across from one another, not speaking. Or sharing a coffee … sharing a coffee? Yes, it appears, they are sharing a coffee. How do they even agree on how to dress it? Sharing coffee?
